Queer for Christ

Having a lot of thoughts lately about what this blog is for, and what I want it to be. I fell in love with the URL when I found out it was available and jumped on it, but am thinking it might make a nice gift to some worthy young person with more content discipline than I possess.

As you can see from the most recent post, my thoughts and energies are more and more turning toward my work as an actor and writer, and that work is not really well described by the words “Queer for Christ,” even though they still describe me pretty well. And it is fun and provocative, sure, but is it reaching people who might be looking for reasoned discourse on matters of faith and sexuality, or is it a turn-off to those folks?

I’m just thinking out loud, here. Comment if you like.

Well, I guess I would suggest: Either do it or don’t do it! Right now you are falling between the stools by “barely blogging”. I come to see you every day because I really value your insights….but after three weeks without postings, I can see that some visitors would just give up.

My personal hopes are that you will continue — regularly — but if it’s going to be only once-monthly posting, well….

You know best what your blog-vocation is, and you’ll have to decide.

But it truly is an awesome URL!

You speak truth, Brother J-J. I do want to continue, but am thinking I will change the name to more accurately reflect what I am writing about. I also think that one more site on the web jabbering on about Peter Akinola and Bob Duncan (when others do it so much better and more often than I) is superfluous at best.

So we’ll see. I want to keep blogging, but don’t want to limit myself to matters of faith and gayness. Thanks for responding.

Well, if you’re queer and you’re for Christ I don’t see the problem. Writing and acting can be as much for Christ as anything else. I’d be interested to hear about how queerdom and Christendom intersect in your acting and writing life. I don’t buy that thing where some things are more for Christ than others. Your whole self belongs to Christ — writing, acting, praying — all of it. And, if you only post once a month, so what?

Terry, I have not visited for a while, because you stopped posting regularly.

You are queer and you are for Christ, but that is, by no means, all you are. FWIW, I think the title, lovely as it is, may well be limiting. I think it may be limiting you in what you write. However, it’s your blog, and you should write whatever you like and title it whatever you like, and see how it goes. OCICBW.

I wonder, too about my blog and comments where it sometimes seems like an “Amen” chorus. I write for me and for folks who will engage with me. If I did not get comments, I’d quit blogging and write a diary. Mine is a total mishmash of whatever pops into my mind that day, or whatever news resonates, or whatever I want to blather on about. It is what it is, for better or for worse.

    Blessings!

Another option might be to start another blog for your other topics and make this one a group one with you and a couple (or a handful) of other writers on the topic of the title.

Sorry about the multiple comments earlier, it seems my internet connection had a fit of burping!
